   The Blackjack Debutant
blackjack

While it is true that I am a professional player and play regularly at online casinos including Winpalace Casino, Casino Titan and Slots Jungleand, I personally do not consider myself to be either rich or famous. So when the management of this website approached me to write an article on Blackjack, I was a bit surprised. Anyway, I've taken a break from playing at online casino sites and am currently on holiday in the Keys so have some time on my hand.

I decided I won't bother writing for pros – they're anyway not going to read my article and besides, they have their own style of playing. My article on Blackjack is therefore aimed at the novice – the new entrant into the exciting game of online blackjack.

Blackjack of course is an easy game to learn and master. In fact, most of you probably already know how to play the game. So rather than bore you with unwanted lecture on how to play the game, I'll stick to providing an overview for a strategy you might consider adopting while playing online blackjack. So here goes:

  • 1. Online blackjack is an easy game but avoid taking it too easy – luck has a nasty way of avoiding blackjack players who get too cocky.

  • 2. I don't care where or what you might have heard or been told, but if you have two tens in you pack while playing online blackjack, don't EVER split them up. The two tens are the Lord and Lady Luck. Having them in your hand makes your chances of winning more certain. I can tell you that the house bets on a player not having two tens in hand at any blackjack game. Conversely, having two tens in your hand means you've reduced the House advantage – it's every player's dream come true. Don't split them up for some petty gain.

  • 3. While playing online blackjack, if you get between 13 through 16, the best option for you would be to 'stay'. Remember to stay when the dealer has six or less. Most dealers will be betting they can bust any Blackjack they will make. Now you know that a dealer busting would still mean money for you.

  • 4. So what should you be splitting? – In blackjack, you split Aces or eights. If your have been dealt a pair of lovely looking Aces or eights don't hold on to them – split them up irrespective of what the dealer might have. While splitting the eights will nudge you towards winning, splitting the Aces will give you a better chance of winning.

  • 5. Take a good look at the cards in your hand and the card that the dealer has left face up. If the dealer's face-up card is a ten, ask for more till you get to 17. Remember this. You need 17 since there is every chance the other card would be a 10 again. You either need a Blackjack or you need to push the dealer to go bust.

  • 6. Manage your bankroll well. This might appear easy but there's more to managing your bankroll while playing online blackjack (or any other online casino game). You can only recover from a bad playing streak if you still have some of your bankroll left. Whether you have emptied your bankroll or not would depend on how well you've managed it.
  • To manage your bankroll well, ensure you have at least 20 units for every blackjack session you are going to play. For example, if you would be playing daily, then you would need 20 times the minimum bet per day. To this, add a margin for losses. So if the minimum bet at your online Blackjack table is $1 and you intend for playing 10 days averaging one session each day, you should have no less than $300 (including $100 for losses).

  • 7. In any sport, timing is everything. Online Blackjack is no different. While you can start playing Blackjack anytime you want, knowing when to fold is critical. Sometimes nothing you do seem right. If you have lost half the budget amount for the daily session, quit! Don't continue playing in the hopes that your luck will change. There's always tomorrow. From a financial point of view, approach the game like a banker rather than a kid hell bent on winning every time. Be a pro, act like a pro. Stay cool, play well and you will earn well.
